Kelty Cosmic 20 Down Sleeping Bag Review

This is my review of the Kelty Cosmic Down 20 sleeping bag. It is a 550-fill down sleeping bag that weighs only 2.5lbs for the regular (fitting up to 6′). You can buy it at www.campmor.com for only $80.

EDIT: The bag used in the video is a Granite Gear compression sack size large. Although a medium size would probably be a more proper size for the sleeping bag.

I found a Kelty Cosmic 20 Down bag at HumbleOutdoors for $90.

For the money you can’t beat this bag, decent quality, I’m happy

SmackontheWeb says:

Of course you did…

brandond2005 says:

@mpwasz Thanks, for $80 and a 2.5lb down sleeping bag you can’t go wrong.

Tim Heary says:

Sorry. I was referring to the size of the compression sack. My bad.

Ernest Hemingway says:

How tall are you? I’m 6’1″ and wondering if I can fit into a regular.

Xengkeng Yang says:

Whats the brand and name of the compression sack ?

Gavin Hanratty says:

How did you get the sleeping bag for only 80 dollars? When I check it’s about $150.

psykopanther says:

nice review.

TrinDawg37 says:

What size compression sack did u use?

Hector Fernandez says:

what is the brand/model of your sleeping pad !?!?!?!

SkiBe63 says:

waterproofing a down bag isn’t such a great idea. You want the moisture from your body to be able to travel right out of the bag to your bivy sack. Moisture trapped inside a down bag equals wet down which means a really cold bag

Bushy556 says:

I found one still in the box brand new at a salvage store for $27. 😛

brandond2005 says:

@lipuid53 I haven’t waterproofed it. I suppose you could try it though, but I have never heard of anyone doing it. I’m not sure how the chemicals in the waterproofing spray would react with the sleeping bag materials. If you plan on doing it I would suggest you call Kelty or the manufacturer of your bag to see if it’s safe. The last thing you’d want is to spray it on and your bag starts melting. This bag has no waterproofing, sleeping bags that do are often quite expensive. Hope that helps.

brandond2005 says:

@xeng26 It’s a Granite Gear AirVent Reduction DryBloc Dry Sack. For down sleeping bags it’s important to get a waterproof or at least very water resistant stuff sack in order to prevent the down from getting wet which will compromise its ability to decompress and trap air. I got mine at Campmor.com when I bought the bag.

brandond2005 says:

@TrinDawg37 I used a large Granite Gear compression sack in the video, but a medium sized bag would probably be a more proper size for the bag.

GearTalks says:

@lipuid53 I believe it’s acceptable to spray a down sleeping bag with water repellent spray. I was watching a McNett video on cleaning a sleeping bag, and at 2:40 in the video, they spray it with treatment: youtube(.)com/watch?v=NJrnISxQCus

jeremyret says:

what is the size of the stuff sack your using

brandond2005 says:

@dtmty My sleeping pad? I have a Therm-a-rest NeoAir All-Season regular (I’m 5’11”) and a Therma-a-Rest Z-Lite (Regular). I mostly use the NeoAir. I like it a lot so far. The horizontal baffles are extremely more comfortable compared to vertical baffles found in the Exped and Big Agnes pads, to me anyway. It’s made out of a thicker material than the NeoAir original and it has a higher R-value which caused my interest. I hear they are releasing a new lighter one soon with similar specs. FML. lol

Tim Heary says:

I found the Brand Name. What size was the bag? Large I’m assuming?

SilentDiablo says:

Has anyone tried pushing this bag to near 0 degrees F or below?

Skellingtor says:

thanks for the review, super useufl

brandond2005 says:

@countykowboy I bought a regular which fits people up to 6′. I’m 5’11” and it fits me well.
