L.L. Bean Continental Rucksack Initial Review

Today I do a brief review of my new favorite bag, the L.L. Bean Continental Rucksack. After buying, and selling around 10 packs over the last 2-3 years, I finally found the winner.

Great job! Great video…
I got this for my guy two months ago and so far he loves it. It is the perfect size. You can load it up full boat, or you can use it for a day pack and the key is, it’s not that heavy. You can synch it all down for a smaller profile. The key thing for him was to keep his toaks cook kit and 40 oz.stainless water bottle on the outside of the pack. Keep his tools, ax, Bacco saw, big blade on the outside of the pack in those “slash pockets”. Easy to grab quickly.
In the front can go a small quick grab trauma kit, maps, compass, write in the rain, a quick snack…that sort of thing. Inside is like his Alice pack he got used to in the Marines. Just one nice big space not all bogged down with compartments and pen holders. He always wears a side pouch on his belt with all his essential EDC items…knife, multi tool(s), phone, etc…so he does not need that sort of thing. This way you can really fit in items in compressed stuff sacs and there is plenty of space….fire kit, food, extra socks, extra gloves, hat, etc…the bivvy from his MMS and a SOL breathable bivvy so you always have sleep protection, small hammock.
Outside, on the bottom goes the tarps, rope or cordage, and on the top his poncho, good to go.
I agree it should at least have a thin pocket on the hood, even to stuff in extra work gloves or water straw. Or a map pocket. Something waterproof like with the Maine Warden which I got…LL Bean ya listening ???

Oooo I received my pack. First impression was, wow the material was much better than I had thought it would be. Seems the perfect size for what I need. Fits me very well at 5’9″ and 220 lbs. (Yes my bellies a tad bulged) lol, and theres plenty of strap left if your even bigger. For those wondering, I have the nalgeen 40oz ss bottle with cup and pathfinder stove. The kit nests and it all fits perfectly in the side pocket. Actually more room than the pouch it all came in. Unless your looking for a pack with molle webbing, I think youll be pleasantly pleased with this one. Though I cant comment on other bags this one is very well built comparing with packs of same price point Ive looked at in stores. It just isnt a complicated bag and I like that. You can drive yourself nuts with all those little compartments and deciding what goes where. LOL Thanks again for helping me decide, this is exactly what Ive wanted.

Well done. You covered the bag very well. I bought mine on one of those 25% off sales a while back. I originally bought it to accommodate photography gear on day hikes but once I had it I could see it was good for lots of different uses. I have better packs for proper backpacking trips but this tough little pack is my go-to bag for some bushwhacking and photo hikes.

Master Tracker says:

Have one and love it . dave canterbury / “pathfinder” packs are SHIT . Fake Army  Pathfinder and crappy gear . Is your review about your dog … or about the rucksack ?

Tramp Trade says:

Good review. Been thinking about getting one of these for a while.
