Top 3 Best Hiking Shoes – Backpacking In All Terra

Here are my 3 favorite hiking shoes (not boots) which include:
1) La Sportiva Wildcats 2) Merrell Moab GTX Ventilators & 3) Ahnu Kentfields.
I use #1 on the vast majority of my hikes as they are breathable, comfortable, and fast drying. #2 is great for cold conditions including snow, ice, and cold rain. #3 are great for extremely wet environments, such as the tropics and streams/rivers.

Note: I have flat, wide-feet and tend to over-pronate.

Shoe Weights (corrected*):
La Sportiva Wildcats 1 lb 9 oz
Ahnu Kentfields 1 lb 6 oz*
Merrell Moab GTX Ventilators 1 lb 14 oz

There’s also Keen Voyageurs in the video. These are not shoes I like to take into the mountains but they are still comfortable, well-made, and great for working outdoors. My major complaint with them were the outsoles which wore out extremely fast and lend to slippage.

Everything was shot and edited in the same day. I’m just trying to get content out as fast as possible so I don’t have excuses not to, such as wanting the videos to be as polished as possible.

I agree shoes are the most important. All around one pound in weight. How do they compare with Nikes? I found that Nikes are the lightest (running shoes). I also have New Balance shoes, very nice, but absolutely no soles, which is nice, but not on long hikes. Ouch! Haha! Just saying…:) Great review. Right now, because of all the snow and cold, I were my Columbia boots, which keep me dry and they have great support for my heels…main thing for me that’s important is keeping dry. lol. Thank you! Great review on your favorite shoes. Two Thumbs up! 🙂

Should i size up on the La Sportivas or do they have a good regular fit? Unfortunately there isn’t a place around where i live to try them on. Also a lot of people say to size up because long hikes your feet swell up and it makes room for that. Curious what your thoughts are about that.

Hey, Jon, thanks a lot for the info!

Do you know of any other sandals similar to the Kentfields that you would recommend? I think I fell in love with these (thanks to your video), but they don’t seem to be on sale anymore and I can’t find used ones for my size either…. I found other products that look similar, but I don’t know if they’re as good.

Thanks a lot again!

Just get $25 trail runners instead of slipping to your death.
